Gail Weingast, MD Profile

At first, it apparently wasn’t clear to Gail that she wanted a career in medicine, since her first stint in higher education involved getting a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts. Not long after, however, she was a medical student at the Boston University School of Medicine, where she officially became Gail Weingast MD in 1976.

Of course, that wasn’t the end of her education, not in the least. Following medical school, Dr. Weingast spent a lot of time at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, where she completed a pediatrics internship between 1976 and 1977 and a residency program in pediatrics over the next two years. She followed that by completing a residency in radiology from 1980 to 1983 and a fellowship in ultrasound in 1983. Dr. Weingast completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver.Dr. Gail Weingast worked at several other hospitals, mostly in Colorado, but also in New York, before she settled into her current hospital, where she has been for more than 20 years.

These days, Dr. Gail Weingast can be found at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. Now one of the most prominent radiology specialists in the country, she values every aspect of her career because it all made her the doctor she is today.
