When Dr. Gail Weingast Speaks on Radiology, Everyone Listens

The most important aspect of being a doctor comes with getting every bit of education you are offered and then learning how to use what you learn to move the medical profession forward. Of course, many doctors will tell you they knew they would be a doctor when they were very young, possibly as early as elementary school. That was not the case for the future Dr. Gail Weingast, however; though it is difficult to consider now that she is ranked among the most prominent radiology specialists in the country, the medical profession apparently wasn’t Dr. Gail Weingast’s first calling, given that her first foray into education wasn’t in pre-med, or even biology, but rather, a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish. That was in 1968.

Something must have occurred to her soon after that, however; by 1976, she had graduated with an MD from the Boston University School of Medicine. That was when she officially became Dr. Gail Weingast. Once she became a doctor, she worked for a number of years at Colorado General Hospital, where she she completed a pediatrics internship and residency, as well as a residency in radiology and a fellowship in ultrasound. She went to St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver, to complete her post-graduate studies as a radiologist. She was finished in 1984 and she spent the next several years working in hospitals throughout Colorado and later New York, before finally landing at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she has turned that radiology department into one of the finest anywhere.
